EastBank Member Artist
Julie M Dent
As an emerging artist, I work primarily in watercolor, mixed media and art incorporating various elements of nature.
The best moments and memories in my life involve creating around the table with my mom and sister, and friends. I was born and raised in a small town in South Dakota. I left South Dakota to pursue a professional career and upon retiring, returned to my native prairie state. Now I indulge my passion for creating art. I am proud of my South Dakota Heritage!
I have no formal training, but as a dedicated life-long learner in the creative arts, I am a self-taught artist in many mediums. I have taken classes, learned from other artists and have done lots and lots of experimenting, trying new ideas. Most of my art is inspired by nature and the beauty that surrounds us in everyday life.
I create in watercolor, watercolor batik, mixed media, acrylic, nature crafts, weaving, paper crafts, beading, and culinary arts.
I began renting art space at the EastBank Art Gallery in Sioux Falls the fall of 2021 and joined the gallery in February 2022 with the approval of the other member artists. I have continually displayed my art at the gallery since then.
In September 2022 and 2023 I was the Featured Member Artist at EastBank Art Gallery displaying my painting collection.
I enjoyed being the Artist in Residence at Sylvan Lake Lodge in Custer State Park, SD, during the fall of 2022 and spring of 2023. In this role I displayed my art for sale in a dedicated gallery and created art in the lodge while interacting with the guests.
I have taught classes at Twin Cities Decorative Art Guild, 2018-2019, and Great Plains Watercolor Society and EastBank Art Gallery in 2023.
My “Rock 2-0” watercolor painting was part of a juried member show at the Bloomington Center for the Arts in Bloomington MN in 2017.
I received an honorable mention for my watercolor “Prairie’s Winter Blanket” in the Dakota Masterworks art show in 2021.
Two of my watercolor paintings were selected to be part of the Packard Group National Exhibition 2002 and 2023. Selected artwork was professionally printed and wheatpasted to the exterior of No.7 Center Gallery in Vermillion, SD.
Selected by the Brookings Art Council I will be exhibit a solo show in Feb 2024 with my one of a kind woven pieces and sculptural rock art pieces.
